This summer, millions of Americans were rooting for Michael Phelps, a gold medalist swimmer and world record breaker, in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He holds 7 world records, and has 14 olympic gold medals, the most by any olympian. He earned 8 of them in this past summer's olympics alone. Many believe that much of his success is due to his physical attributes. These include an armspan of 6 feet 7 inches, which is diproportionate to his height of 6 feet 4 inches. The length of his armspan allows his arms to act like paddles in the water.
In addition to looking like an athelete, Phelps also eats like one. He consumes and average of 12,000 calories each day which is about 6 times the amount of an average male would consume. This amount of food intake is necessary because he swims an average of 50 miles every day!

Michael Phepls could be the greatest athelete of all time. As I watched the onlmpics this summer, I would watch him shatter world records in amazement. My parents told me to watch every moment because there probably will never be a human being that can accomplish the things that he has done in his very short career. The scary part of it is that he still is young and has a long career ahead of him. He truely has a very bright and optimistic future.
Michael Phelps is an amazing swimmer.
Its hard to imagine eating all that food and then burning all of it off by swimming.
