New Digital Lighting Proves to "Go Green"

For the past few years, the earth as been making the effort to go green in order to save our environment. There are hybrid cars, which are fuel efficient and organic everything from clothes to bedding, and even household cleaners. One thing that we overlook is lighting. The incandescent light bulb that you probably have in your bedside lamp and in almost every light in your home is based on the same technology invented by Thomas Edison more than a century ago. Electricity flows into a metal filament, and the filament heats up and emits light as a byproduct. What we overlook is that these lights use up about 10% of all the electricity used in our homes.

According to an article from Sciencenews.org, new digitial lighting using the lights that are in computers, LED's, proves to be much more efficient which is estimated to cut the energy used by lighing in half during the next decade! We have already put them to use through cell phone light, alarm clock lights, and traffic lights but they are still too expensive to replace all lights thoughout your home. Another reason to switch would be that they encased in plasic instead of glass, making them less breakable.

Together we can save our enviroment by using the new technology available to us, whether it be lighting, driving, or furniture in your home. Go green!

This is a great idea and people should all make an effort to go green. Hopefully in the future everyone could have them in order to save energy.

This is such a cool idea! And you're so right that the world's going green in every single thing except the most obvious thing- lighting! Hopefully it will work out that we can all use these lights and save energy :D
